Song: Fishing Bridge

Fishing Bridge

I awoke this morning to clear blue mountain skies.
The air was so sweet it whispered your name and now all I can think of is you.

Today is the day I can be on the bridge and see what the cutthroats will do.
Forget what you are doing, cancel your plans, tell your momma you'll be late.
And meet me on fishing bridge.

We can walk in the forest and sit by the stream we can make six miles a day.
There is no place so pretty and pure, it's as pretty as looking at you
So meet me on fishing bridge.

Don't wait for the sunlight to hit you, don't wait for the coo of the dove.
You can be here by morning with sunshine, flowers and love.
I followed the Sun over the mountains, I came here to be with you.
In case you're wondering of my intentions, I want to sleep next to you.
So meet me on fishing bridge.

I know you like mountains and crisp morning dew, and emerald streams with your wine.
I'll bring your lunch, you bring your dreams and well go off and make some plans.
So meet me on fishing bridge.

I awoke this morning to clear blue mountain skies.
The air was so sweet it whispered your name and now all I can think of is you.
So meet me on fishing bridge.

Song Background!

Okay this is the oldest song on the album. It has long been my favorite and the first song on this album to be performed live.

One day I was fishing the eastern shore of the Yellowstone river just North of Fishing Bridge. It was an amazing day. Early in the day, a soft breeze landed on my cheek and I thought of Sara and how this is a song I should write to her to tell her we should be together. It worked. I may have romanticized that story a little. I lose perspective on it now. It was romantic.

Shortly after that, the bridge filled up with big male buffaloes. They put on a big show for us. Pawing at the pavement, they were on the bridge itself, holding up all traffic on both sides.

As the biggest bull attempted to show up how big and powerful he was, all the families crept quickly across the bridge and up the immediate slope on the northwest bank of the river.

After everyone was safe, the big bulls merely walked away and followed up the slope. It was all a show to get the Fam across the bridge to safety.

Usually they just swim the river.

Fishing Bridge is my favorite and a drive along that section of the Yellowstone River thru the park is beyond inspirational.
